Pawel Lisiecki Quartet "Bound To Happen"
New album released by the Polish Jazz Association Wrocław.
The quartet of guitarist and composer Paweł Lisiecki is a representation of the young generation of musicians associated with the Wrocław jazz community. Apart from the leader, the band consists of Łukasz Zgoda - saxophones, electronics, Rafał Krzywosz playing the bass guitar and Marcin Urszulak - percussionist.
The band's music is inspired by the young wave of jazz artists in minimalist forms with elements of nu-jazz. When asked about their inspirations, the musicians cite artists such as Gilad Hekselman, Christian Scott, GoGo Penguin and Jonathan Kreisberg.
The quartet's music sounds fresh and modern, presenting a wide range of sounds, from minimalist and spacey to dynamic. The compositions, often based on irregular meters, are arranged with attention to the smallest details. The guitar and saxophone correspond superbly both in the melodic and sometimes extended themes, as well as in the improvisations, in which the soloists move with great freedom to create an interesting, coherent sound, while the whole is complemented by the energetic and modern playing of the rhythm section. The classic sound of the guitar quartet is complemented by delicate, ambient textures that add atmosphere and space to the compositions.
The release of the album 'Bound To Happen' was subsidised by the Municipality of Wrocław.
